Biography
Twenty plus years of experience and research have allowed Valerie Sorel to develop a highly successful and original pedagogical approach to the art of teaching voice. Singers of all levels, from absolute beginners who want to explore their vocal potential to internationally acclaimed performers in need of technical fine-tuning, come to her for lessons tailored to their specific needs.

Based on her practical understanding of physics, physiology, chemistry, and her analysis of the student's physical makeup, Valerie's technique emphasizes the understanding of the kinesthetic mechanisms involved in the fine coordination essential to the act of singing, thus giving the student/singer control over his/her instrument. Valerie Sorel's lessons never fall into a routine: problems are tackled individually with the goal of improving the singer's relation to his/her instrument by addressing issues pertaining to range, flexibility, resilience, coordination, expression, and overall vocal comfort. No time is wasted, dramatic progress is made, and the student ends up saving energy, time and money.

Valerie Sorel Singers come to Valerie from a wide variety of backgrounds: opera, musical theater, jazz, folk, R & B, choral, etc. Some are experienced performers, some are high school students preparing auditions for colleges and conservatories, and others come to experience the pleasure of singing. It is interesting to note that, after a few years of technique with Valerie, some of these "amateurs" make a successful transition to the professional world.

Valerie's students can be seen performing at the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice, New York City Opera, on Broadway, Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall etc. Many of her students ended up whining prestigious competition such as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Tony, George London Foundation, BBC Cardiff Singer of the world, etc.

The excellence of her teaching was recognized in 2006 by the Metropolitan Opera, who included her name on its very exclusive list of approved teachers. She also collaborated with Jason Williams and P. Diddy (Making the Band) in their project of helping underprivileged young adults to stay out of trouble and embrace their love for music through singing. In August 2014 she will join the voice faculty of the Venice Opera Project.

Valerie keeps in touch with her ever-expanding international studio through the Internet and Skype. Singers performing or residing in Europe, Asia, South America, and anywhere else in the World can enjoy the benefits of full-fledged voice lessons, without the added expenses of travel and accommodation.

Valerie's ultimate pedagogical role is to give singers all the empowering mastery and knowledge to enable them to express themselves musically without the worries and insecurities that can mar many a performance. She rarely uses a pianist in her lessons so she can concentrate exclusively on vocal technique, thus avoiding transforming the session into an expensive coaching. Her approach is tailored both to the individual and the moment. No two lessons are alike in approach, a fact that testifies to her strong belief in the flexibility and adaptability of a masterful technique.
